Walking: Your New Favorite Exercise

By March 15, 2018No Comments

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, right? Think of taking a 30 minute walk a day the same way. The benefits of walking are numerous, but we’ll share just a few of them today. A short walk each day ensures you’re putting your health first, but is not a vigorous activity that could hurt your joints.

  • It’s a natural mood booster. This kind of exercise can increase the hormones that make you feel happy. You can also make your walk social. Invite your friend or spouse along with you. Feeling down? Take a walk and you may be surprised by how much your mood can improve.
  • It will aid in weight loss. Regular walking can improve the way your body responds to chemicals in your body, which can in turn reduce fat. Walking is a great way to get some low-impact exercise in, which can positively alter your body composition.
  • It will lower your risk for chronic disease, like diabetes or high blood pressure. Taking the time for regular walks lowers your blood sugar levels and your overall risk for diabetes. Regular walking has also been shown to lower blood pressure, which can lower your risk for a stroke.

These are just a few reasons why you should make a 30 minute walk a solid part of your daily routine. We get it, life can get busy. Start with just a few minutes if you that’s all you have, but make it a part of your day. Do yourself a favor and make your health your top priority.
