This is the total amount you must pay out-of-pocket before your insurance starts to pay. For example, if your deductible is $1,000, then your insurance won’t pay anything until you have paid $1,000 for services subject to the deductible (keep in mind that the deductible may not apply to every service you pay for). Furthermore, even after you’ve met your deductible, you may still owe a copay or coinsurance for each visit.

Insurance FAQs
What is a copay?
This is a fixed amount that you must pay for a covered service, as defined by your health plan. Copays usually vary for different plans and types of services. Typically, you must pay this amount at the time of service. Again, copayment amounts are fixed—which means you will always pay the same amount, regardless of visit length.
What is a coinsurance?
This type of out-of-pocket payment is calculated as a percent of the total allowed amount for a particular service. In other words, it’s your share of the total cost. Keep in mind that the coinsurance amount may vary from visit to visit depending on what services you receive and the length of time of those services.
Are all providers at your office in-network with my insurance plan?
Some insurances may not have accepted all of our providers as participating. This is why it is crucial that you investigate the details of your specific plan.
I have 2 insurances, so I’m double covered and won’t owe anything, right?
Unfortunately, insurance coordination isn’t always that simple. Depending on the plan types, you may owe toward a deductible, coinsurance or copay at each visit (even if you have 2 insurances). Please contact one of our account managers for assistance. Visit our Payment Assistance Page.

I was in an auto accident. What information will you need?
Please be prepared to give our reception staff the following information:
- Accident date and state
- Your personal auto information, even if you were not at fault (insurance company, claim number, adjuster name, phone number)
- Remaining Personal Injury Protection (PIP) amount
- The at–fault auto information, if applicable (insurance company, claim number, adjuster name, phone number)
- Your health insurance information
- Attorney information, if applicable
I was hurt on the job and have filed a worker's compensation claim. What information will you need?
Please be prepared to give our reception staff the following information:

- Employer company name, address, and phone number
- Workers compensation insurance information (insurance company, claim number, adjuster name, phone number)
- Your health insurance information (if your injury has not been accepted)
- Referral from your doctor
Is a doctor’s referral required for treatment?
Utah is a “direct access” state, which means that a referral is not required from a doctor to receive physical therapy. However, some insurances require a referral for claims processing. We would encourage you to reach out to your insurance company to check whether or not a referral is required.
Therapy FAQs
What if I don’t know if physical therapy will be beneficial for me?
Contact one of our locations to schedule a free consultation. This is a brief visit with one of our experienced physical therapists to discuss your pain and limitations. If they feel your situation warrants consultation from another provider specialty, they will give you a referral recommendation. If the therapist feels you would benefit from physical therapy treatment, you will be given the option to continue that day with a full appointment (and your insurance will be billed).
Will I be more sore after physical therapy?
We do our best to avoid increasing pain after physical therapy. There are some times when a joint or body part has not been moved, and the result of stretching or moving that joint can increase pain to a degree as we try to reach your goals, but it is usually minimal. We do not have a “no pain, no gain” treatment approach, and do our best to avoid increasing pain or discomfort. In fact, many times people feel much better and have pain relief as a result of their physical therapy interventions.
How long will my appointments take?
As the initial evaluation will be more extensive, we tell our patients to plan on the appointment lasting approximately 90 minutes. Additional appointments will take approximately 60 minutes, depending on the type of treatment you receive that day. What should I wear?
We ask that you wear loose, comfortable clothing that gives our therapists access to the area being treated. Our exercise specialists will walk you through a series of therapeutic stretches and strengthening exercises at each appointment.
Billing FAQs
I paid at the time of my appointment, why do I still have a bill?
Our office collects an estimated portion toward your bill at the time of your appointment. There are times when the estimated portion was not enough to cover the balance left by your insurance company. If you have further questions about your bill, please contact your account manager. Do you offer payment plans?
Yes! Insurance rates can cause medical bills to become expensive quite quickly. RPT offers auto-recurring payment plans for your convenience (subject to interest charges). We also accept CareCredit credit card payments. This gives our patients a flexible, interest free or deferred option to cover their treatment.
