If you develop an illness or suffer an injury that causes pain or difficulty with functional mobility, you could benefit from a visit to a Physical Therapist. Your Physical Therapist can assess your specific situation and provide focused treatments and exercises to help you return to your previous level of function.
Whether this is your first visit or you’ve been treated by a Physical Therapist in the past, there are things you can do to make your visit as successful as possible.
Before Your Visit
- Make a list of any questions that you have.
- Write down any symptoms you’ve been having and for how long.
- Write down key information about your medical history; physician information, prescriptions, medical conditions, family history, etc.
- Arrive in comfortable clothing that you can move around in.
What to Expect During Your First Visit
Your first session with your Physical Therapist is called an initial evaluation. During this session, your Physical Therapist will learn more about your condition, your previous level of function, and how your condition is affecting your life. They will then put together a treatment plan for you to help you return to your prior level of function.
One of the main goals of treatment is to improve or maintain your ability to do your daily tasks and activities. To reach this goal, your Physical Therapist will give you exercises to perform at home. These new exercises can help minimize pain, lessen strain, avoid re-injury, and speed up your recovery.
Keep in mind that you will get out of physical therapy what you put into it. To schedule your appointment at one of our numerous locations, give us a call at 801-571-0099.
