Happy Physical Therapy Month! To celebrate, we wanted to debunk some common physical therapy myths.
- Myth #1: You need a doctor’s referral to see a Physical Therapist. Many people deal with pain for far too long assuming they need to see a doctor before they seek pain relief from a Physical Therapist. This is completely false, you can schedule your appointment with RPT without a referral, our physical therapists can help diagnose and treat your symptoms without having to see a doctor first.
- Myth #2: Physical therapy is only for those who suffer from accidents or injuries. While physical therapy is incredibly useful for those recovering from these types of injuries, physical therapy has many other uses. Visiting a Physical Therapist can strengthen your muscles and improve your mobility and flexibility, decreasing your chance for future injuries. There are many benefits for those who choose physical therapy, no matter the circumstance.
- Myth #3: Surgery is my only option. Many patients at RPT have found pain relief and improved function from consistent physical therapy appointments and practicing exercises at home. In most cases, surgery isn’t your only option.
- Myth #4: Physical therapy isn’t covered by insurance. Most insurances cover some type of physical therapy. Physical therapy has actually been shown to reduce healthcare costs by helping those who utilize their therapy benefits to reduce unnecessary imaging scans, surgery, and prescriptions.
