If you suffer from back pain, you know how debilitating it can be. In most cases, stretching and yoga can help strengthen your back and core muscles and cut down on some of this pain. If you are faced with severe back pain however, medical attention may be necessary. We are sharing some stretches to increase flexibility and strength in your core and back muscles! These should help to minimize any back pain or discomfort you may be experiencing.
-Press your hands against the wall, shoulder-width apart. Bend over, with a flat back. Make sure there is a slight bend in your knees. This is a gentle stretch on your back that is useful if you have been sitting for a long period of time.
-Start on all fours and shift your weight towards your heels, while stretching out your arms. This also stretches out the muscles in your back and can help relax the surrounding muscles as well.
-This yoga pose helps to strengthen and stretch your back muscles. Stand with your feet about three feet apart and parallel to each other. Rotate your right foot so the right heel is in line with the arch of the left foot. With your arms extended to the side, tilt at the hip to reach your right hand toward the ground, on either side of your foot. Rotate your body to the side and reach the fingers of your left hand toward the sky. You can use a bolster or step to help stabilize your hand if you aren’t flexible enough to reach the ground.
It is important to listen to your body during these strengthening and stretching exercises. If you are feeling pain, stop and move to a stretch that is less strenuous for you. When it comes to back pain, prevention is key. These exercises will help you prevent future back problems by strengthening your muscles. If you have any questions, please reach out to us!
