Winter Weather Injuries

Winter weather can present  hazardous conditions here in Utah. Sub-freezing temperatures create icy conditions, making falls more common. Motor vehicle accidents are more common due to these same icy conditions that create treacherous road conditions. Increased amounts of snow require snow removal and snow blowing or shoveling are often hard on the back, shoulders, and neck. These hazardous conditions present multiple opportunities for injury.

During winter months, we often see patients in our clinic with any number of the following issues:

  • Strains: Neck, back, shoulders, elbows
  • Fractures: Hip, shoulder, elbow, wrist
  • Sprains: Ankles and knees
  • Recreational Activities: Skiing, Snowboarding, church basketball

Many people let their injuries go on for days, weeks, or even months before seeking help from a health-care provider. Prompt treatment of these injuries is very important, and can provide pain relief and quicker return to full activity. Let our skilled physical therapists help you recover quickly from these injuries that can occur in the winter months.
