In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, many are finding themselves working remotely rather than in-office. If you’re not careful, you may find this is causing you some aches and pains due to improper posture and setup of your workspace. We’re here to share some tips to keep you pain-free as you work from home:

1: Follow the 90° rule. Your ankles, knees, hips, and elbows should all be bent to 90°.

2: Your computer screen needs to be at eye level.

3: Use proper back support. A small pillow or rolled towel behind your low back may be helpful. You want enough support to prevent your back from “slumping” back into the chair, but not so much that it causes you to arch your back.

4: Take frequent breaks throughout the day. Getting up out of your chair, going for a short walk, and doing some quick stretches for the neck and back throughout the day.

We are confident that by implementing the above recommendations, many of the minor aches and pains you are experiencing as a result of working or studying from home can be minimized or eliminated. If, after implementation of the above recommendations, you are continuing to have pain, then it is time to come meet with a licensed Physical Therapist at RPT.

Each of our therapists are knowledgeable and have experience with performing ergonomic assessments. They can help you identify the underlying postural stresses and then make appropriate recommendations for positional changes to alleviate those stresses.
