During this time of social distancing and self-isolation, it can be easy to become more sedentary and not get enough exercise. We’re here to remind you that social distancing does not mean that you can’t get the exercise you need each day. Exercise has numerous mental and physical benefits. Try incorporating some of these exercises into your day:
- Bike riding. Bicycling is a great way to work the muscles in your legs and a way to keep your heart and lungs in shape.
- Hiking. Hiking allows you to get outside and still follow important social distancing guidelines. Hiking is also a great way to work your muscles and strengthen them.
- Taking a walk. Just taking a lap around your block has physical and mental health benefits. Always make sure you’re following proper social distancing guidelines.
- Trying in-home exercise programs. Youtube has some great, free options for in-home workouts and can be a fun way to get your exercise in.
Group workouts such as High Fit classes, Cycling classes, etc. are canceled and any other group exercise activity is restricted to limit the spread of COVID-19. However, many virtual options are becoming available, allowing you an alternate way to get your favorite kind of exercise in.
Don’t let this time of public health uncertainty become a time where you neglect taking care of your physical and mental health. By making the effort to get your body moving at some point each day, you’ll reap the benefits both physically and mentally.
