The most common injury received in an automobile accident is whiplash. Over 3 million people in the U.S. will report having some form of whiplash injuries sustained in a car accident each year. Only half will receive treatment for their pain.

When first diagnosed, a physical therapist will ask about your neck problems and your personal history with neck pain. Your physical therapist will then ask you which activities make your symptoms better or worse, or if they affect your day-to-day living.

Then, working closely with a licensed physical therapist, you’ll work to reduce inflammation of the area. Focus is also put on increasing range of movement and strength one exercise at a time.

Each person recovers differently and at various paces, but the average recovery time is three to six weeks.
